breaking the corporate habit

I have never been a great fan of kill your tv it may be the opiate of the masses but I am a proud information addicteven if it is evil. But the possibility of a new trend could change all that for me...
One of the main things I hate about TV is the fact that it is typically dumbed down and censored to suit "the audience" especially in this country. That coupled with the fact that people seem to be trying to force me to pay for controlled information from a source of information that was once free that is currently paid for by advertising (does anyone remember the hype about how a cable channel could be commercial free?) makes me want to give up and forget the whole mess. Still assuming I am an addict what other choice do i have?

enter the story of Robert Kevin Rose born a year before me and obviously imbued with the hacker ethic

"Break your computer. Seriously I can't tell you the number of times I have reformatted my hard drive because I tweaked something until it broke. When I first got involved with computers I needed some free space, so I decided to delete my entire DOS directory (the operating system). Needless to say, my PC wouldn't boot. But I took something away from that and never repeated the same mistake twice. "

and some good taste

he said hello world with his 80386 SX 16 and a two-node Wildcat (and PCBoard) BBS with a CD-ROM full of shareware for people to access and a hidden section for private users. he eventually ended up(after a period with the nevada DOE my guess is Level 16 of Groom Lake facility. >;) ) creating a web show then started working for techtv as a behind the scenes tech guy where he discovered a windows messenger flaw someone at tech saw the light and they made him a feature(even if they did dumb it down by calling him "the dark tipper") eventually techtv became g4 and with each change in the shows things seemed to get more "audience friendly" and less interesting. and then kevin made an announcement Monday marks the end of his contract with g4(whitch they finally let him out of) and he's going to do his own thing he's been doing content he wasn't happy with and want's to go more geeky so he's moving on to do his own IP based content starting with SYSTM (if you click nothing else click this) .
turning his back on the corporate(well paying) world to create something good(and free). let that sink in. I'm sure you have noticed how radio on demand is available via the podcasting revolution
and others like from the shadows are doing the same for tv so start looking for what you want instead of watching what's on. if this trend continues i may be able to keep my visual fix and still be able to kill my tv.
